PROTECTING AND ENHANCING OUR WILDLIFE

This is the area we protect. With over 49 lines maintained by one part time trapper and  over 50 volunteers, we are well on our way to controlling and eradicating possums, rats, stoats, weasels and other pests threatening our endangered birdlife, We have identified endangered birds in our area: Kaka, Kiwi  (within 3.6km), Banded rail, NZ Bittern, Dotterel, Fernbird, Oystercatcher, Reef heron, Caspian tern, Shore skink and Moko skink. Each dot represents a trap or bait station, and each time we check each station, details of the catch are recorded in TRAPNZ  This keeps a tally on what's been checked, what's working. This reporting is vital to monitor our progress. Coordinating, joining and working with groups in Hahei and Hot Water beach is a current focus
